Today after breakfast you will be picked and start driving stropping enroute at Dedza Pottery for the Chongoni Rock Art experience and KuNgoni’s Chamare Museum before proceeding to Salima – Blue Zebra Island Lodge on Nankoma Island.

The Chongoni Roack Art area is allocated on the southern Africa plateau about 80 km south-east of Lilongwe near the town Dedza. Well-preserved rock paintings belonging to a rare African rock art tradition; by the Chewa farmers and by the hunters gathering BaTwa Pygmies. It is an area of forested hills with numerous granite outcrops and kopjes, protected as Forest Reserves. Within the hills, 127 rock shelters have been used for rock art, creating the richest concentration of such art in central Africa. Chongoni has one of the world’s greatest concentrations of rock art known to have been made by women.

After lunch at Dedza Pottery Lodge, we depart Dedza for Mua Mission’ KuNgoni Centre of Culture and Art – a vibrant hub for art, culture, and education nestled in the heart of Mua, a village in the Dedza District, central Malawi. Arriving early afternoon at Mua Mission, we will drive straight to Chamare Museum.

The Chamare Museum provide the visitor with an introduction to the richness of the Chewa, Ngoni and Yao cultures of central and southern Malawi, as well as a little on the BaTwa people, the original and now vanished inhabitants of Malawi. The Museum has three rooms containing photographs, text panels, and displays of objects from the three cultures. The museum dipslays Nyau masks. Nyau or Gule wankulu is the “great dance” of the Nyau secret societies of the Chewa. Gule wamkulu was declared a ‘Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’ by UNESCO in 2005. Chamare Museum also provides detailed information on the rituals and rights of passage for the Chewa, Ngoni and Yao people. It also chronicles, the histriy of the White Fathers mission work in Malawi dating back to 1902.

Later in the day, the journey continues to Salima where we drive straight to the boat yard on the shores of Lake Malawi where you will get a boat transfer to Nankoma Island on Lake Malawi.

Blue Zebra Island Lodge is nestled on Nankoma Island, part of the Marelli Archipelago; an unspoiled paradise under the protection of Lake Malawi National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Blue Zebra offers a perfect combination of adventure and relaxation in a tranquil setting, inspired by nature. Today after your breakfast, the journey to continues to one of best Malawi’s wildlife destinations – Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. Your accommodation will be at the Tongole Wilderness Lodge. The journey takes about 3 hours driving.

You will meet your guide, after greetings you will start driving to Lilongwe International Airport for your flight back home. Your journey to the Airport will be about 45 hours drive.
